A leading international data centre construction contractor is seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer to join a major data centre project in Sines, Portugal.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct environmental inspections and site walkovers.
• Identify environmental non-compliance issues and agree corrective actions.
• Prepare monthly environmental progress reports.
• Investigate environmental incidents and track corrective actions.
• Monitor environmental permits and site complaints.
• Oversee waste management, recycling and waste minimisation.
• Ensure drainage systems and watercourses are protected from contamination.
• Manage spill prevention measures and spill kit training.
• Support client environmental inspections, meetings and audits.
• Monitor medium- to high-risk activities and ensure environmental compliance.
• Deliver environmental toolbox talks and promote best practice.
• Support emergency response exercises and improvement plans.
• Assist with the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP).
• Review construction method statements for environmental risks.
• Coordinate environmental documentation and site inspections for LEED Gold certification.
• Drive environmental awareness and sustainability initiatives across the project.

Requirements

• Relevant environmental qualification or degree.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience within the construction sector.
• Strong understanding of environmental regulations and management principles.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
• Site supervision experience would be beneficial.
• Experience in data centres, high-tech, industrial or pharmaceutical projects would be advantageous.
